why the words ‘corporate’ & ‘psychic’ and how they can help us heal in the human experience

inspired by a question, what do the words ‘corporate’ & ‘psychic’ mean to you as opposing ends of a duality?

this post is in reference to one of my businesses, The Corporate Psychic. you can find this original article here.

the words (and the worlds of) corporate and psychic, could not be more opposing, and even triggering in the proper contexts or groups of people.

and yet, there is a beauty in the union of opposition here.

and yet, they each have more in common than we may, at first, think.

I have a theory that these opposing forces live within and without all of us. And I have a theory that it is through the integration of opposing forces that we may find deep healing.

But first, let’s talk about the words & the worlds, themselves.

Two Entities

Corporate & Psychic are two beings that have been horribly misunderstood. Through this misunderstanding, layers of projection are placed on these concepts, transforming these entities into something they are not.

Both words (and worlds) are like a dirty shaggy dog that you can’t even recognize as a dog, where they must be brought into awareness, recognition, acceptance and ultimately, love. And like re-habilitating the shaggy dog, there is work and effort required to shed light on the true essence of what is in front of us.

Corporations don’t suck souls, people & process & policy do.

Businesses come to us as ideas with souls. When we collaborate with these soulful ideas, when we take action on them, when we begin to build something with them, a material entity is born. It is the human element that gives an idea or a business life.

When a business becomes corporate, often the soul (or the original intent, inspiration, and energy) gets lost.

A structure can become too structured. A system can become too systematic. And it’s the over-emphasis on process, policy, and systems that often wash over the original spirit of the work and the people. The soul is ushered away to a lonely, dark office in the basement, where it begins to shrivel and the employees can (no longer) feel it.

Mix this with unhealthy power dynamics, false promises, and hyper-fixation on metrics &/or revenue, and the employees on the frontlines begin to shrivel, too.

Corporate does not always feel safe. It does not always feel welcoming. It is not a place where authenticity is born or fostered.

Yet, it is only the re-awakening of the individual spirit, the fostering of authentic being and connection, and the integration of soul purpose, values, and joy that will re-ignite the soul of any business or corporation.

And this is possible. I know this to be true, because I lived it. It was not through playing to power, compromising my beliefs or values or character, or small betrayals of my self or soul that lead to my success in corporate.

My success in corporate was through the finding and the being of my authentic self and the embodiment of my purpose.

My success in corporate was through the holding of firm boundaries, the dedication to my lifestyle, and the devotion to my true self and true nature.

My success in corporate was through my willingness to show who it is that I am through my work, to my peers, and to the leaders that I worked alongside even and especially when it meant speaking truth to power.

It was through my highest levels of integrity and most aligned way of being that I was able to find not just success, but joy, fulfillment, ease, and pleasure working for the man.

And I realized that corporate wasn’t out to get me, that most of the executives that I worked with were actually really great, honorable, self-actualized and devoted people, and that we can live and work and be happy plugged into a system such as corporate while being fulfilled and self-actualized, too.

AND that there is much work to be done both individually and systematically to keep the souls of those who work within corporate, and the soul of corporate itself, alive.

& then there is the psychic realm

To me, psychic means of the soul. To work in the psychic realm is to practice listening and integrating the soul itself into our way of living, working, relating and loving.

For me, it doesn’t necessarily represent spirituality as we know it, with incense, the crystal ball, crystals or the fortune telling stereotypes (though I do love a good crystal ball emoji 🔮!).

Only when I was able to look at Psychic in the way of the soul, was I able to get close to it.

Still, the word psychic has a bad rap. Like the word Corporate, Psychic is triggering — and for good reason!

The Psychic Scam is real. Because of this there are undertones to the word Psychic representing something dark, something only few have ‘gifts’ to experience, something that calls to us but feels forbidden, and something to be feared. Many have either worshipped what they know to be ‘Psychic’ or they have completely written it off.

But, I think we are missing the full picture — intuition is not something to be feared. It is something that everyone has access to, that shouldn’t be denied.

bringing two worlds together

I chose the words Corporate & Psychic because they are both triggering, misunderstood, and deeper than we give them credit for.

I wanted to integrated & unify the parts in me that were opposing & I wanted to demonstrate that integration of opposing forces, even in the name of this business.

For me, there were parts that wanted to quit my job AND parts that wanted to climb the ladder all the way to CEO.

Most anyone who is multi-dimensional that works in the corporate space will understand the feeling of “do I stay or do I go?”

And, it’s the inability to sit with this conflict (or any conflict within us) that allows the conflict to expand.

This is a similar opposition that i see in a lot of clients.

There’s a conflict around our intuition —

“is this real or am i making this up?”

“do you say this to everyone?”

there’s both a pull towards it and pull away from it.

But the solution isn’t to choose one & deny the other. The solution is to expand in the duality, to integrate those opposing forces — yes, beginning with Corporate & Psychic, but also way beyond these spaces.

the artist & the entrepreneur

the type-a & the ADHD

the mom & the employee or the business owner

the creative & the admin

the career oriented & the lover

the giver & the receiver

the leader & the healer

the debt-free guru & the potter

the frugal & the expansive

We can alternate between two separate worlds and identities and watch the divide between each expand — or we can embrace all that we are and watch our entire being expand.

For me, I choose to blend & integrate — not offering a separate space for the corporate to expand, or the psychic. But to work within each and beyond ✨
