Injeongjeon (Palace Building)

Note: this is part of my series in exploration, reflections and translations of the Korean Secret of the Kingdom Oracle deck.

Reflections:

There is a hidden phoenix that is indicated in the guidebook, but not visible in the card. A phoenix is painted on the walls inside the building. The King intended it to represent peace and prosperity. Does it also represent transformation? (I think yes)

This card depicts dreams and a future of benevolence, but there is a question: what did you have to do to get there? The history is that this king slaughtered a bunch of people who were loyal to the previous dynasty. It’s a dark history, but perhaps it was what was required to instill the transformation and change that he was seeking?

What I read in this is someone who has really good intentions or dreams (benevolent governance - it’s the meaning of the building name) but who had to get to his position in the opposite way, or at whatever cost. What he did to the people was maybe not benevolent at all.

It could also represent a person on a mission for good, willing to do whatever it takes to complete the mission. Sometimes we are not aware of the impact or consequences of our actions. I think about the guy who invented infinite scroll (Aza Raskin) — he had no idea how it would contribute to social media (and what the impact of social media would be on the culture and population at large). The results are definitely not in alignment with his values. Yet, it was a meaningful contribution. In this podcast episode with Simon Sinek, he mentions that sometimes positive local impact may lead to negative global impact (or visa versa).

Somehow, I also think about destiny and fate. Is it real, and to what extent can we fight it?

Another thought: There are multiple truths (and not one single source of right or wrong). How might we recognize the positive in even a dark history?

What I also see in this card is a beautiful palace building where the doors are open but it’s dark inside. Does this represent a dark history?

Translation:

This card is about your ability to hold duality and contradiction within the process. It says, you are on your way. It signifies a future (based on your previous work and where you are now) of peace and prosperity. It represents intended dreams or plans coming into fruition and groundwork that has impact beyond you (impact to the greater community, the world, and impact that will outlast your lifespan). You are laying that groundwork now and it’s important, though you may not be able to directly see the full spectrum of change & transformation that you’re catalyzing.

Remember how you got here. There may be darker elements involved. It’s okay to keep some things to yourself. Hold your dreams and positive intentions close. What you’ve done does not need to become who you are or represent in any way, where you are going.

What you build or create is part of a never ending collaboration with your environment, circumstance, and the history that came before you. A favorable change in circumstance is taking place signifying the completion of a previous chapter. You are ascending into a position of greater power.

Remember, it is the chapter before this that got you here, but you have a choice in how you move forward. You may consider moving forward in a way that is more aligned with your values. This will allow your dreams to fully manifest.

Season/timing: Early Spring (according to the guide)
