i look into the eyes

I look into the eyes of people I never knew they stare back at me through photographs, black, white & color. smiling faces of people who are mostly no longer here. My eye catches a yellowed switch plate, the shade of something chosen a long time ago. Did it ever match these walls? I ask the photographs. The Katydids stridulation rises and falls through the window.
